Cineland Video wasn't a chain. It wasn't a franchise. It was the kind of independent video store that film lovers remember with real affection — the sort of place where you could walk in asking for a mainstream blockbuster and leave with three titles you'd never heard of and couldn't wait to watch.

For years, Cineland served Cape Town's cinephiles, casual renters, collectors, and students of film. The shelves held an extraordinary range: popular Hollywood titles alongside European art cinema, Japanese animation, Middle Eastern drama, and Far East cinema that had never played in any local multiplex.

The collection grew with deliberate care. Every title was chosen. Every shelf told a story. And when the day came to close the physical doors, the collection didn't disappear — it waited.

The Japanese Manga collection alone represents years of specialist sourcing. The majority of those titles are now discontinued and no longer freely available anywhere. For collectors, this is the kind of catalogue that surfaces once and doesn't come around again.
